Born 1778. Ensign 1794, 80th Regt. From 1797 to 1800 served in Ceylon. In Feb. 1801 he proceeded from India to Egypt under Baird and was a Major of brigade in that campaign. He returned to India in 1802. In 1804 became Aide-de-camp and Military Secretary to Major-General Dowdeswell, in the campaigns of 1804-06 under Lake. ""In consequence of impaired health he returned to England with Lord Lake (whose daughter he had married) early in 1807"". Married in 1806 the Hon. Elizabeth Lake, who died in 1851] |
