Service  Captain Arbuthnott served during the Sutlej Campaign, 1845-46. Present at the actions of Moodkee({horse shot under him) Ferozeshuhur, Alliwal, and Sobraon. Medal and 3 Clasps. Served during the Mutiny in Shahabad, 1858-59. Present at the affair of Karesath (charger wounded). Capture of Jugdespore, and pursuit of the rebels to and from the Soane. Present at the skirmishes of Mujowlee and Mukoolaon. Served under Colonel Seymour at Doomraon, who drove the last party of rebels out of the district. Medal. Mentioned in the Despatch of Brigadier Douglas, C.B., 27th October 1858. Brought to the notice of H. E. the Commander-in-Chief in the Despatch of Brigadier Douglas, C. B., 27th October 1858, also on the 31st October 1858. Received the thanks of the Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal, 27th October 1858. Promoted to the rank of Captain on the Invalid Establish­ment for "valuable active service," 5th November 1859.
