Service  Lieutenant Barwell was present with Head Quarters on the mutiny of the Regiment, 31st May 1857. Served with the Force under Colonel McCausland in defence of the Kumaon Hills in 1857 and 1858. Present at the actions of Kuldwanee, 18th September and 28th October 1857; Charpoorah, 10th February; Sittargunge, 25th February; and Russoolpoor, 5th July 1858. Commanded a Squadron of the Rohilcund Horse, (now 16th Bengal Cavalry,) at the action of Maila Ghaut, under Major-General Walpole, K.C.B., in 1858. Commanded a Squadron of the Rohilcund Horse, with the Column under Colonel Smyth on the banks of the Sardar Biver, 1859. Commanded a Squadron of the Rohilcund Horse with the Column under Lieutenant-Colonel Williamson on the Nepaul Frontier. Medal. Mentioned in a Despatch of Colonel McCausland at the action of Charpoorah on the 10th February 1858.
