Present at the relief of the Garrison of Pegu, 14th December 1852; Commanded a Field Force in the Tharrawaddy District, Burmah, against the Rebel Chief Mong Gouneggie, in which operation several of his strongholds were destroyed, and a quantity of stores and supplies were captured of various descriptions. (Medal and Clasp.) Served in the Campaign in Hindustan of 1857-58. Commanded a Wing of the Kumaon Goorkha Battalion at the siege, storm and capture of Delhi, 14th September 1857. (Dangerously wounded.) Medal and Clasp. Commanded a Force in the Seharunpore District; and on the 10th January 1858, encountered and beat back across the Ganges, at Hurdwar, upwards of 1,000 of the enemy, with 4 guns, destroying a quantity of them, and capturing arms and munitions of war. Received the thanks of the Governor-General in Council for the defeat of mutineers at Hurdwar, on the 10th January 1858, by the Troops under his command. Also the thanks of the Chief Commissioner of the Punjab for the organization of a large body of men for the Oude Police Force. Also the thanks of the Chief Commissioner of Oude for raising Cavalry and Infantry for the Oude Police Force. Was promoted to the rank of Brevet-Major for services before Delhi. |
