Service  Major Brander served with the Burmah Expeditionary Force in 1852-53. Present at the operations in the vicinity and capture of Rangoon, April '52. Accompanied the Martaban Column as Commissariat Officer to the Bengal Troops from Martaban to Tounghoo in January and February '53. Present at two skirmishes with the enemy, Medal. Mentioned in the Despatch of Brigadier General S. W. Steel, C.B., Commanding the Martaban Column, and published in General Orders by the Commander-in-Chief, dated March 29th '53. Served as Senior Commissariat Officer and Paymaster to the Goorkha Auxiliary Force, under the Command of Maharajah Jung Bahadoor, from December '57 to June '58. Present at the re-capture of Goruckpore, the storming of the Fort Julalpore in Oude, and the siege and capture of Lucknow in March '58. Medal and Clasp. Mentioned in the Despatch of Brigadier General G. H. McGregor, C.B., Military Commissioner, on two occasions, published in General Orders by the Commander-in-Chief, dated 28th January '58 and 2nd April '58. Promoted to Brevet-Major for services in the Oude Campaign. (Received a certificate of high proficiency in Oordoo, 4th July 1849, and also in Hindee, 18th September 1849, from the College of Fort William.)
