Service  Lieutenant Burlton served with his Regiment during the Sonthal Campaign of '55, under General Lloyd, from July '55 to the close of the Campaign in the beginning of '56. Served with the Sarun Field Force, under Brigadier Rowcroft, in the Sarun and Goruckpore Districts, from October '57 to June '58. Present at the following actions: Sonepore, 25th December '57 ; capture of Fort of Chandeepore, in Oude, 17th January '58; " Phoolpore," in Oude, 20th February '58; " Amorha," near Fyzabad, on the 5th March '58, and 17th April '58; capture of Fort Nuggur, in the Goruckpore District, on the 29th April '58. Present at the capture of Jugdeespore, in Arrah District, by the Column under Colonel Eyre, in August'57. Medal. Mentioned in the Despatches of Colonel Rowcroft, who commanded the Brigade, and Brigadier-General MacGregor, Military Commander with Maharajah Jung Bahadoor's Goorkha Troops. Accompanied the Sarun Field Force as Doing Duty Officer with Maharajah Jung Bahadoor's Troops, and commanded a Detachment from December '57 to June '58, of 50 Sikhs of the Bengal Police Battalion, at that time attached to the Sarun India Force.
