Service  Captain Byers served with the Gwalior Army. Bronze Star. Served throughout the Punjab Campaign of '48, '49. Present at the affair of Ramnuggur and passage of the Chenab; at the actions of Chillianwallah and Goojerat, and in the subsequent pursuit of the Sikhs and Affghans by the Force under General Gilbert. Medal and 2 Clasps. Accompanied the Force from Nepal under His Excellency Maharajah Jung Bahadoor, G.C.B., from 15th December '57 to 2nd May '58, in the capacity of Political Assistant to Brigadier General G. H. Macgregor. Present at the capture and re-occupation of Goruckpore; also at the siege and capture of Lucknow. Medal and Clasp.
