Service  Major Dalton served in Assam, and was engaged in expeditions against the Frontier Tribes, 39, 40, and 42. Served as Officiating Political Agent in Upper Assam, in 55. Planned and superintended an expedition which surprised and captured the Mishnee Chief who had murdered the French Missionaries, Messrs. Krick and Bourry, on, the Thibetan Frontier, Received the special thanks of the Governor-General. Served in 58, as Commissioner of Chota Nagpore, with the Field Force under Major MacDonell against rebels in Palamow. Received the acknowledgments of Government, 2nd February 58. From May 58 to February 59 was employed against the Singhbhoom insurgents. Received the thanks of Government, 19th July 58, and approval of operations throughout the rains, 14th September 58; and finally the cordial acknowledgments of Government, 28th February 59. Received an intimation of the entire approval of his services from the Secretary of State in a Despatch, 4th November 59, brought to the notice of the Home Government in Despatch of the Governor-General. Received a letter from the Secretary of State, communicating to him the approbation of Her Majesty the Queen for his conduct, as brought to Her Majestys notice. Medal. (Passed examination in Assamese and Bengali.)
