Recommended for Brevet-Majority. Served as Assistant-Superintendent of Police under General Neil, at Cawnpore, August and September 57. Vacated appointment to join Force under Havelook as Volunteer to Captain W. Olpherts Battery. Present at second re-crossing into Oude, and the engagements of Mungalwar and Alum Bagh, 25th September; first relief of Lucknow, and subsequent defence of that Garrison. Mentioned in Despatches of Colonel V. Eyre, Commanding Artillery Brigade, General Order. Present in re-taking Cawnpore, December 57. Received thanks of Government. Medal and Clasp, and Brevet-Major. Served in the capacity of Orderly Officer with the Force under Colonel Gawler in the Sikhim Campaign, 60, 61. Brought to the notice of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief in Despatch of Lieutenant-Colonel Gawler. (Recommended for V. C. for Mutiny Campaign.) |
