Service  Captain Donaldson served with the Army of the Sutlej, 45, 46. Present at the action of Moodkee, 18th; Ferozeshuhur, 21st and 22nd December 45. Received the thanks of the Governor-General and the Commander-in-Chief. Present at the battle of Sobraon, 10th February 46; occupation of Lahore, 13th March 46; and formed part of the Garrison till October 46. Medal and 2 Clasps. Served under Sir J. Littler with the Force towards Cashmere, December 46. Served in the Punjab Campaign, 48, 49. Commanded Rear Guard of the Army from Barra Muttyan, 19th November 48. Present at the passage of the Chenab, 18th December 48; at the action of Chillianwallah, 13th January 49; and Goojerat, 21st February 49. Medal and 2 Clasps. Present with the Regiment during the Mutiny, 13th and 14th May 57, and marched in with the Detachment which laid down its arms. Received the thanks and warm acknowledgments of the Brigadier Commanding.
