Service  Captain Eckford served with the Army of the Sutlej, 46. In 50, 51, with the 2nd Punjab Infantry on the Kohat and Bunnoo Frontier, against the Hill Wuzeeree Tribes. Present at the siege of of Delhi, 57. Served with the Meerut Volunteers, June 57; against the rebels in the Mynpooree District, May and June 58. Services favorably mentioned by the Governor-General, 7th October 59. Severely wounded on 10th May 57, when defending, as Executive Engineer, the Office and Treasury, 6th Division Grand Trunk Road, against an attack made on it by mutinous sepoys and rebels. (Passed examination in Surveying and Civil Engineering.)
