Service  Captain Gowan served throughout the Punjab Campaign, 48, 49. Medal. Commanded the staunch men of the late 11th Native Infantry, from 8th November 57 to 2nd March 58, in rescuing fugitives from the massacres in Rohilcund. liaised and Commanded an Infantry Levy to apprehend mutineers and rebels, from 19th March to 31st October 58. Accompanied the Force under Major-General Penny, from March to April 58, and that under Colonel E. Jones, from 1st to 10th May 58, as Assistant Commissioner in the operations in the Etah, Mynpooree, Budaon, Furruckabad, and Bareilly Districts. Present at the action of Kakrala, on 30th April, and in the operations before Bareilly, on 5th May 58. In Command of the above-mentioned Levy, occupied the station of Moradabad from 15th May till the arrival of the Force under Brigadier Coke, on 17th June 58. Medal.
