Served against the Rohillas of the Bhopal State, in Central India, in October 46. Present at the action of Kalia Kheree, 6th October 46; commanded there the Infantry and 2 nine-pounders of the Bhopal Contingent. Received for this service the thanks of Lord Hardinge, who was pleased to order that Captain Thurburns name, with those of others engaged, should be placed in honorable record in the Adjutant-Generals Office. Served in the Turkish Contingent Cavalry from 20th March to 9th August 55, Served during the suppression of the Indian Rebellion of 57, 58. Accompanied the Force under Brigadier Campbell in the attack on the rebels near Papamow (Allahabad), on the 6th January 58. Brought to the notice of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief, in his Despatch, as having rendered assistance to the Royal Artillery during the action. Medal. Accompanied the Force under General Walpole, from 9th April 58 to May 58, in the capacity of Civil Officer, in the expedition from Lucknow into Rohilcund. Present in the attack on the Fort of Rooheea, 15th April 58, and the affair of Allygunge, 22nd April 58. Brought to the notice of HMs Government in the Supplementary Civil Service Minute of the Governor-General of India, dated 30th December 59. Received the approbation of Her Majesty for services at Luckuow and with Major-General Walpoles Column, conveyed in the letter of the Secretary of State for India to his address, dated the 11th June 60. |
