Service  Major Tickell served during the Sutlej Campaign, 45, 46: present at the actions of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur (horse shot under him), and Sobraon. Medal and 2 Clasps. Received the thanks of the Officer Commanding the 73rd Native Infantry. Served during the Punjab Campaign, 47, 48. Medal. Served during the Mutiny at Julpigoree, in 57. Aided in preserving the 73rd Native Infantry and the peace of the district, and in suppressing several attempts at Mutiny at Julpigoree. In December 57 commanded a Detachment of 73rd Native Infantry and 11th Irregular Cavalry set out to attack the Dacca mutineers. In this expedition the Squadron of Irregular Cavalry mutinied in Camp, and in attempting to desert and join the Dacca mutineers, were engaged, defeated, and being captured, several were hung. Received the thanks of the Officer Commanding at Julpigoree for this service. Medal. Brought to the notice of the Commander-in-Chief, 15th September 57, and received the acknowledgment of His Excellencys approval of his conduct, 25th September 57, where it is added, "Captain Tickell is already known to Sir C. Campbell as a meritorious Officer." Good services also acknowledged by Government and promised to be brought to the notice of the Crown.
