He married 21st August, 1827, Laura Louisa (died 25th April, 1898) second daughter of Samuel Ludlow, Presidency Surgeon, Delhi, and had issue- Mary Louisa, born 2nd January, 1834 (married 6th April, 1858, Edmund Lewis Hooper, schoolmaster, London); Annie Adair, born 26th August, 1835, died 26th April 1919 (married 18th April, 1860, Henry Bean Mackeson, Hythe); Harriet Dalmahoy, born 19th December, 1837, died 31st January, 1846; Flora Hastings, born 25th April, 1841 (married 24th December, 1867, Thomas Shelford , Singapore). Publications - Songs and Miscellaneous Pieces (Ayr, 1874). He was author of the song ""Hae ye mind o' lang lang syne"".
