Service  Major Edgell served with General Pollocks Force in Afghanistan, in 42. Present at the operations in the Khyber Pass, and at the occupation of Ali Musjid by the troops under Brigadier Wild. Present at the forcing of the Khyber Pass, and operations in the Mageenah Valley. Present in the Khyber Pass, when the British troops finally left Affghanistan. Cabul Medal and thanks of Government. Served with the Army of the Punjab in 48, 49. Occupied with his Regiment the Tete-du-Pont near Ramnuggur, on the Chenab, the day of the battle of Goojerat. Medal and thanks of Government. Served throughout the siege of Lucknow, from the 30th June to the 22nd November 57. Present in the action of Chinhut, commanded at the Cawnpore Battery post every third or fourth day throughout the siege, and did duty at "Gubbinss Post" on the intervening days. Present in every attack at these posts. Medal and Clasp. Brevet-Major. Twice mentioned in General Inglis Despatch, and received the thanks of Government.
