Service  Brevet-Captain Elphinstone served with the Army of the Sutlej, 46. Joined the Head Quarters Camp, and accompanied the Army to Lahore, February 46. Served with the 4th Native Infantry during the Punjab Campaign, under General Wheeler, 48, 49. Present during several skirmishes in the Kangra Hills, January 59. Mentioned in Despatch of Colonel Downing, 19th January 49. Medal. Served during the Mutinies of 57 in the Googaira District. Commanded a Detachment of Levies and Police in September 57 with which he attacked and destroyed Jamrah, the head quarters of the rebels of Khumul. Commanded a Detachment during the attack of the rebels on the station of Googaira. Accompanied the Forces under Colonel Paton and Colonel Chamberlain, from September 57 to November 57, as Deputy-Commissioner during the Googaira Insurrection. Was present during the attack on Googaira, action near Hurappa, and final attack on Julla. Medal. (Received a degree of Honor for attainments in the Persian Language.)
