CommentThese are summaries of the Services of Service of Madras Civil Servants entering the Service from 1740 to 1858. Evidently, several of them continued to serve beyond this date.

The data are transcribed from the book compiled by Charles Prinsep published by Truebner & Co in 1885.

Summary of Service  1840: Writer. 1841: Assistant to the Collector and Magistrate, Masulipatam. 1842: Assistant to the Principal Collector and Magistrate, Cuddapah; Acting Assistant to the Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor of Fort St. George, in Ganjam. 1843: In the same capacity at Vizagapatam. 1845: Assistant to the Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor of Fort St. George, in Vizagapatam. Proceeded to Europe on furlough. 1848: Returned to Madras. 1849: Assistant to the Collector and Magistrate, Chingelput; Acting Secretary to the College and University Boards; Assistant to the Collector of the Land Customs, Madras. 1851: Secretary to the College Board and to the Madras University' at first Acting, the Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate, Rajahmundry. 1856: Acting Deputy Secretary to Government, and Secretary to the Board of Examiners; Proceeded to Europe on furlough for 6 months. 1857: Acting Deputy Collector of Sea Customs, Madras: Acting Collector and Magistrate, Nellore; and at South Arcot. 1858: Inam Commissioner for the Presidency. 1863: Services placed temporarily at the Disposal of the Government of India. 1864: Provisional Member of the Council of the Governor-General of India. 1865: Member of the Council of the Viceroy and Governor-General of India. 1869: On medical leave to Europe for 6 months. 1870: Retired from service, 11th March. (Annuitant on the Fund.)
