Service  Lieutenant Daunt served with the Column commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Fischer, 27th Madras Native Infantry, during the Mutiny, 57. Served with the Column Commanded hy Lieutenant-Colonel English. Her Majestys 53rd Foot, during 57, 58. Present at the attack and defeat of the Ramghur Light Infantry Battalion, at Chuttra, Chota Nagpore, 2nd October 57. Conduct brought to the especial notice of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief. Present at the attack and defeat of the 32nd Native Infantry (mutineers) at Nowadah, Behar, 2nd November 57 (severely and dangerously wounded). Conduct brought to the notice of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief, for submission to Her Majesty, for the decoration of the Victoria Cross. Medal and V. C. Served in the capacity of Baggage-Master to the Column under Colonel Fischer. Interpreter to the Column under Colonel English. Commanded 4-gun Bullock Battery on service, G O.C.C., 12th October 57. Entrusted with the Secret Intelligence Department whilst serving under Colonel English, vide letter, dated January 62. Received the thanks of the Government of Bengal, dates of letter about 15th October and 20th November 57. Services in China in 58. Rejoined the 70th Native Infantry at Canton, 1st April 58. Present at the White Cloud Mountain Affair. Present at the repulse of the Chinese at the Landing Pier. Present at the repulse of the Chinese at the Magazine Hill. Medal. Dates of acts of bravery, 2nd October and 2nd November 57. Lieutenant Daunt and ————— are recommended for conspicuous gallantry in action on the 2nd October 57, with the mutineers of the Ramghur Battalion, at Chota Behar, in capturing 2 guns, particularly the last, when they rushed at and captured it by pistoling the gunners, who were mowing the Detachment down with grape, one-third of which was hors de combat at the time.
