In Afghanistan, engaged in the actions of 19th, 23rd, and 24th January 42; at the mouth of the Khyber Pass, forcing of Khyber Pass, 5th April 42; and subsequent operations in Affghanistan. Medal. Served throughout the Sutlej Campaign,46. Present at the battles of Buddiwal and Alliwal. Medal. Accompanied General H. Wheelers Force towards Cashmere, to assist Rajah Goolab Singh, to gain possession of his country from Shaik Emamooddeen. On its return, was appointed Staff Officer to that Force, and thanked in Field Force Orders for services performed. Served as Brigade-Major at Benares, 4th June 57, on the mutiny of the Native Brigade. ( Wounded.) Thanked in Colonel Niels Despatch, 18th June 57. Served as Assistant Adjutant-General to the Field Forces in Oude, under Command of General Outram. Attached to the Staff of General Havelock, at the battles of Munglewar, 21st; Alum Bagh, 24th; and first relief of Lucknow, 25th September. ( Wounded.} Received Brevet-Majority, 24th March 58. Served at the defence of the Baillie Guard, final relief of Lucknow, and all operations; recommended for Brevet-Lieutenant-Colonelcy by General Outram, and received that rank, 20th July 58. Served at the repelling of the attack on General Outrams camp, at Alum Bagh, from November 57 to March 58, including capture of enemys guns and position at Ghylee, and at the capture of Lucknow. Medal and 2 Clasps. Thanked by the Governor-General and General Outram, and Colonel Napier, for services during the defence of Lucknow, 22nd and 28th December 57. Thanked by Sir J. Outram for his services at the capture of Lucknow, and his name recorded as deserving of honorable mention, 16th April 58. |
